TRAPANI

The 2 sea city was an ancient Phoenician port of call named Darbase (thorn) and later Drepanon (scythe) because of its sharp tongue of land jutting out to sea which protects the natural harbour.

Particularly interesting is a visit to the historic city centre, including a walk through the ancient but recently restructured streets.

For nature lovers a visit to the salt pans is a must.

To remember also is the famous Misteri Procession which is held on Good Friday.

ERICE

Erice was an ancient Greek and Phoenician settlement, secured 751 metres high on the mountain of the same name.

It is crowned with a triangular shaped plateau, forming a perfect viewpoint above the sea.

The town was, and still is surrounded by old walls and bastions and has a labyrinth of extremely narrow cobbled streets.

The terraces houses have pretty internal courtyards, almost hidden from view.

PALERMO

Situated in the centre of the Mediterranean, and site of the most ancient civilisations, the city has always been a mixture of western and eastern cultures.

In Palermo you can still see the influences of the many conquerors of the city. The Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs, the Normans, the Spanish, the French and the Austrians have all left traces of their time in Palermo, thus giving the city an incredible and original mixture of art, decoration and architecture from Northern European to African, Medieval to Baroque.

SEGESTA

Always in conflict with the city of Selinunte, the ancient and splendid ancient Greek city of Segesta, has the remains of a marvellous Doric temple built around V century B.C. in an area outside the city walls.

Still today, classical and modern plays are put on in Segesta's ancient amphitheatre.
